"Rough Night" starts out buoyantly, and it and features some wonderfully weird moments scattered throughout. But those scenes never truly gel with the movie's eventual life-or-death stakes. Instead we get a plodding, largely unfunny mess that is so full of incomprehensible plot points that you'll wish you had some hard drugs yourself, just so you could black out and forget most of it ever happened. Rough Night, which is like an episode of Broad City that got a blowout and smoked a pound of primo studio notes, tries to have it both ways. It wants to be a character-based lost-weekend romp, but keeps forcing itself toward increasingly ridiculous and self-consciously naughty set pieces.
