'Winter Ridge' however did disappoint in other areas. Matt Hookings doesn't really convince in the lead role, somehow he didn't seem comfortable and dramatically and emotionally he came over as rather inert. The direction is uneven, never incompetent but there are unsure and plodding moments (too.
Winter Ridge is set in the sleepy seaside town of Blackrock, and follows workaholic detective Ryan Hodges (Matt Hookings). His vaguely comfortable small-town life comes to a screeching halt as his wife is run over and put into a coma. Meanwhile, a series of OAP murders take place in the town.
Admittedly, Ryan's judgment may be off due to his grief - his wife was left in a coma after a car accident, caused by an angry local drunk (played by the reliable Scots character actor Ian Pirie, one of the film's few redeeming features). Story: Winter Ridge starts as we meet detective Ryan Barnes (Hookings) about to celebrate his anniversary before an accident leaves his wife in a coma. This happens when the first sudden heart attack in the area starts. With Sara still in her coma, the drink driver Mike Evans (Pirie). Winter Ridge is set in the sleepy seaside town of Blackrock, and follows workaholic detective Ryan Hodges (Matt Hookings). The movie gets a few things right, namely the sets and locations that distinguish Lenoir from the common amateur.
